Then Singing Voice for the Speech-Language Pathologist, VoiceProEd’s flagship course, is the course for you!

In the spring of 2021, Maurice began to notice the need for SLPs trained in singing voice and the lack of educational resources for clinicians wanting to enter that field. He and Anna put their heads together, and the first iteration of Singing Voice for the Speech-Language Pathologist, or SVSLP, was formed.

This course aims to provide an overview of the skills required for an SLP to begin working with singers and is a great foundation for some of our more specialized intermediate courses that dive deep into voice pathologies such as glottic insufficiency and vocal fold lesions.

Not an SLP, but an early career voice teacher? SVSLP might be a great way for you to witness experts working with actual voices and to formulate strategies to help you be the best guide for the singing human being in front of you.

Over the course of one intensive day, we will cover the roles of an SLP versus a voice teacher (now updated with a new joint statement from NATS, ASHA, PAVA, and VASTA!), how to construct exercises for your singing voice clients and patients, and familiarizing yourself with your own voice—yes, we will be singing! Each lecture portion on the Power-Souce-Filter theory features an accompanying vocal exploration to help you get to know your own voice and deepen your own personal understanding of singing. We will be taking volunteers from the attendees to provide live demonstrations, so you even have the potential opportunity to work live with one of us!

This is our fourth run of this fabulous course, and we can’t wait to show you everything we’ve learned over the past year!

In this five-hour introductory level course, attendees will use explore their own voices, guided by power-source-filter theory, learn more about the singing voice through live demonstration and laryngeal exams, and begin compiling their toolkit of exercises on how to work with singers.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the power-source-filter model of voice production and how it applies to clinical work with professional voice users.

  2. Develop perceptual voice evaluation skills and relevant therapeutic interventions for singers.

  3. Identify the roles of the SLP and Singing Voice Specialist or voice teacher in a patient’s care.

  4. Explain common voice disorders and technical challenges faced by singers and their impact on vocal performance.

  5. Implement direct strategies and exercises to address voice disorders and technical challenges in clinical settings for singers.

    There will be NO partial credit offered for this course.

  • In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, you must complete the pre-registration form, attend the course live or watch the full recording of the course, and pass the post-course assessment.

    If you attend the course live, you must complete all requirements by 11:59pm on Friday, November 14. If you watch the course replay, you must complete all requirements by 11:59pm on December 31, 2025.

  • Yes! If you cannot attend live, the recording of this course will be available for viewing through December 31, 2025. You may still earn ASHA CEUs asynchronously by watching the replay and completing all course requirements.
