Singing Principles in Voice Therapy: A Practical Approach for SLPs

Session Description

This session explores how principles of singing and voice training can support vocal health and well-being across broad clinical populations—no singing experience required. Drawing from current research on the physical and psychosocial benefits of singing, presenters will demonstrate how exercises focused on balance across the subsystems of voicing (respiration, phonation, resonance) can be integrated into evidence-based treatment for voice disorders. Through active audience participation, attendees will explore exercises they can use in sessions targeting disorders like muscle tension dysphonia, vocal fold nodules, and vocal fold atrophy. The session emphasizes the pedagogical reasoning behind these strategies and how they align with the functional goals of clinical voice therapy.
